Estelle's story

Share

Estelle from Inverness explains why it is so important to her to thank all donors this Christmas.

"In 2003, at the age of 25, I fell extremely ill and ended up in intensive care fighting for my life. My bowel had become obstructed as a result of adhesions from an old appendix scar. This constricted my bowel and cut the circulation off. I needed an emergency laparotomy, a bowel resection and was on a ventilator with septicaemia. I had at least two units of blood in order to give me a fighting chance of survival.

"I am now 40 and still have some health issues, but I owe my life to blood donors and the NHS staff. Thank you."
