Aberdeen employees Va-va Vroon into action

Employees from Aberdeen shipping company, Vroon Offshore Services, returned to give blood after a few years break and eligibility concerns.

Some of those donating hadn't given blood since 2019.

Lapsed donor Laura is returning to give blood after taking a break due to pregnancy.

She said, 'It feels great to be back. Everything was very smooth and the team have been so lovely and really efficient.'

Crewing Supervisor and organiser of the group booking Angie Dow said, 'As a company we all know how important it is to give blood but we're really aware that after Covid, a lot of people have fallen out of the habit of booking an appointment to donate.

'The process of organising was really easy and the times were convenient to fit around our working day.

'Personally, it's been a couple of years since I could donate due to having a B12 deficiency. However, now I'm on a maintenance dose of B12 injections, it meant I was able to give blood as long as I passed the haemoglobin test.

'I was delighted to be able to give blood again, it gives you that warm fuzzy feeling knowing that you've helped others. It just goes to show that you should always check with the team about any medication you're on because you might be able to give blood and not realise it.

'We can’t wait to organise our next session. We’re already getting a date in the diary and hope to make it a much more regular occurrence.'
