Blood Donor Week 2024

Share

Today marks the start of Blood Donor Week 24, leading into World Blood Donor Day on Karl Landsteiner’s Birthday, Friday, 14 June. And what a special week for Scotland it is.

Scotland fans have been asked to make an extra special effort to donate before the Euros kick off this week. Donations can fall during major sporting events like the European Championships, so it’s important that donors come forward now.

All donors can receive a ‘Yes Sir I’m a Donor’ sticker as a special thank you.

With thousands of football fans travelling to Germany, Giffnock Dads FC know how important it is to donate. Player Adam Pennington explains, ‘My daughter Freya was diagnosed with leukaemia in November 2020. The first night that she was in hospital, she had to have a blood transfusion. And we know at that point it actually saved her life.’

Freya is now healthy, happy and supporting both Dads FC and our ‘Yes Sir I’m a Donor’ campaign.

In recent weeks Captain Ross Purdie and Scot Van Der Akker has organised a group booking for Dads FC, with up to 25 people donating.

Everyone at SNBTS would like to thank Freya, her family and all at Dads FC. We have welcomed lots of other clubs, teams and individuals and there is still plenty time to get involved.

Celebrate Blood Donor Week this week by booking your appointment to donate, wear your Scotland top if you can, and wear your Yes Sir I’m a Donor sticker with pride.

We can’t wait to see you. Happy Blood Donor Week everyone!
