Information for travellers to France and Monaco

Share

From Thursday 22nd October, we will be asking blood and platelet donors who have travelled to some areas of France and to Monaco to wait before donating. This is because of a small outbreak of Dengue fever, a viral infection spread by mosquitoes.

Which donors are affected?

Any donors who have travelled to the French regions of Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Pyrénées-Orientales, Var, and Alpes-Maritimes and its surrounding areas.

Any donors who have travelled to Monaco.

I've travelled to one of these areas - how long do I have to wait?

You will have to wait at least 28 days after your return before donating. If you have been unwell during your trip, or in the four weeks after your return, you may have to wait longer. Please call our helpline on 0345 90 90 999, or contact us for advice before coming to a session.

I've been to France, but not the areas mentioned?

You can donate as soon as you get back. It's still important you tell us about your travel, so we can do the right tests on your blood.

  • If you've been to France or Monaco recently, contact us before coming to a session. You can call us on 0345 90 90 999, email nss.snbtsenquiry@nhs.scot, or use our online enquiry form
