Mocha, mates and making a difference

This July, nine big hearted baristas from Costa Riverside came together to give blood in Dundee Donor Centre.

Ewan, Costa Foundation Representative said, 'We had an incredible day with the friendliest team we could have asked for.'

The Costa Foundation, a charity run by Costa Coffee, aims to build schools for children in coffee-growing communities across the globe.

Ewan continued, 'I've always wanted to give blood, so I thought that by going to the blood donation centre and encouraging my colleagues to donate I would be raising awareness for two great causes. By giving blood, we were able to help those in need in Scotland and raise awareness for children's education abroad.

'With less than 3% of the eligible Scottish population giving blood, we felt that we needed to help raise awareness. We learned on the day that each time you give blood you can help to save or improve the lives of three people. Your donation is separated into three components - red cells, platelets and plasma.

'We will definitely be back later this year and will be encouraging more Costa staff to sign up and give blood.'
