Shell give blood in Aberdeen

Share

Last week we were delighted to welcome employees from Shell to give blood at Aberdeen Donor Centre.

First time donor and organiser of the event Michaela Cargill said, 'Giving blood is something I've always wanted to do but just never got round to. I know that the blood transfusion service used to come to our office but I thought it would be just as easy for us to donate as a group at Aberdeen Donor Centre.

'I've had quite a few operations over the years and although I've never needed blood, it's good to know that it's there if it's required.'

Aberdeen Recruitment and Publicity Officer Kimberley Petrie provided a 'Lunch and Learn' talk prior to the group donating. Michaela said, 'The talk really helped to provide information on what our blood might be used for. Hearing all the facts and figures was really interesting and the personal stories Kimberley shared really put it into perspective.'

Another first time donor was Nairn Petrie. Nairn's Mum was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer in 2022 and receives regular transfusions as part of her treatment. He knows just how vital blood transfusions can be.

By giving blood as a group at Aberdeen Donor Centre, Shell employees have helped to save or improve the lives of 42 patients in Scotland.

Apart from spending the morning saving lives, the group blood donation also served as an excellent team building activity, with colleagues laughing and even being competitive with who had the fastest donation time.

Michaela said, 'Thanks again for helping us organise everything today - it was a great experience and everyone was so lovely. We'll definitely be back.'
